Polish director Janusz Kidawa (Ultimatum) brings us a very personal film with a conscience. Three construction workers live together in a tiny private apartment while building a new factory. Their foreman, Kolecki, is supposed to be supervising the production line, but instead he abuses his position by neglecting his responsibilities. After Kolecki is fired, the three friends are determined to stay the course and finish the factory.
With its focus on the dissatisfaction of everyday life and the breakdown of moral values, Kidawa s film echoes the Cinema of moral concern associated with Krzysztof Kieslowski and Krzysztof Zanussi. HORIZONTAL LANDSCAPE offers a snapshot into an era when Communism still dominated society and culture, but unrest and dissatisfaction signaled change on the horizon.
